For preparation of the batter:




Chickpea flour (besan) : 2 cups or 150 grams
Ginger garlic paste: 1 teaspoon
Salt: 1 teaspoon
Turmeric powder: 1/4th teaspoon
Red chili powder: 1 teaspoon
Cumin powder (zeera powder) : 1/4th teaspoon
Cooking soda: 2 pinches
Water: 1 ½ cups or 160ml

1.    In an empty bowl, add chickpea flour, ginger garlic paste, 1 teaspoon salt, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin or zeera powder cooking soda and water. Mix well and keep it aside for about half an hour.
For stuffing:
Chili peppers (whole) : 8
Dry coconut : half shell or 50 grams
Tamarind (de-seeded) : 2 tablespoons
Garlic cloves: 6
Mint leaves: ½ cup
Chopped coriander: ½ cup
Whole green chilies: 2
Salt: 1 teaspoon




1.    In a frying pan roast slices of dry coconut to golden brown.

2.    In an empty bowl, add roasted coconut slices, tamarind,  garlic cloves, mint leaves, chopped coriander, whole green chillies and salt. Grind this into a fine thick paste. Do not use water while grinding.

3.    De-seed the  green chili peppers slitting them vertically.

4.    Stuff these slit chili peppers with coconut paste or chutney. Keep them aside.


Preparation of Mirchi Bhajiyas:




Stuffed chili peppers
Oil for frying



1.    Add oil to a frying pan and when the oil is hot, dip  the stuffed chili peppers into the batter and coat them thoroughly.

2.    Lower these coated chili peppers into the oil and fry on both sides till they turn brown.


Besan ke Mirchiyan are ready. Serve with the Pudine Ki chutney.
